This Sourdough Beer Bread is one of my favorite "go to" quick breads. |
I love that this Sourdough Beer Bread is quick and easy. I also love that I can use up my sourdough starter discard - even straight from the fridge.
Here's how easy this bread is:
Mix up your dry ingredients. Pour in the sourdough starter, and the beer, and mix well.
Pour mixture into a well buttered pan and pour melted butter over the whole thing.
Bake for about 50 to 55 minutes.
I like to slice my Sourdough Beer Bread into squares. |
Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before removing and slicing.
My favorite part of this Sourdough Beer Bread? The crispy, crunchy, buttery crust! |
Just look at that crispy butter-laden crust. Pure heaven!
I serve this bread with soup, of course, and extra butter for slathering on. 😊
Sourdough Beer Bread
INGREDIENTS
2 1/4 cups unbleached all purpose flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
1 12 oz bottle/can of beer, minus 1/4 cup
1 cup sourdough starter discard
1/4 cup melted salted butter + more for buttering pan
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and generously grease a 9 x 9 inch baking pan with salted butter.
2. In a large bowl, mix up the flour, baking powder, and sugar.
3. If you haven't already, pour out and drink, or reserve, 1/4 cup of the 12 oz beer. Pour what's left into your bowl along with the sourdough discard. Mix well.
4. Pour into prepared pan and pour the melted butter evenly over the top. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown and crisp.
5. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Then remove and slice into squares.
